All Wings Report In: Welcome to The Dejark Table!

Hey!

So, uhh, this is awkward.  Introductions always are.  Let's just rip this band-aid right off.

My name is Thomas.  I work in IT, I have an adorable dog (I'll post a pic at the end of this entry), I was a Ubisoft Star Player at E3 2017, I'm planning on going to GenCon 2018, and two of my favorite things are Star Wars and tabletop gaming.  As it turns out, those hobbies mesh pretty well.

I'm a huge fan of Imperial Assault and Star Wars Rebellion, so expect a lot of content on both of those games.  I'm slowly getting into X-Wing, so there'll be some articles focusing on that as well.    I'm also excited to discuss some of the non-Fantasy Flight Games titles, too- there's definitely some treats out there!

Specifically, with Imperial Assault, my goal is to create a series of posts focusing on the Campaign aspect of the game.  While I do enjoy Skirmish, I have far more experience in the former mode, and I think there are a lot of really interesting topics that could be covered.

I'm very interested in some of the more RPG centered items, like Edge of the Empire.  I haven't played any yet, but I'm so more than game to do so.  If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Of course, I'm also a human with interests outside of Star Wars tabletop games, so it's totally possible that I may end up making some posts that go a little off topic.  Likely topics include current films, Game of Thrones, Westworld, Assassins Creed, Marvel and DC stuff, and... well, non-tabletop Star Wars content.   I'll try to keep them to a minimum, but I guess you can think of them as sort of "lifestyle" posts- a look at the guy behind the blog.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this, and I hope you are, too!  I'm already working on my first article now, so you should expect it really soon!

Oh, and here's my little bantha!

Profiles in Hope: Diala Passil

All right, I've already posted some articles giving advice to Imperials.  I'll start to look a little biased if I don't put out some Rebels content, so (as much as it pains me to give Rebel's advice) here we go! One of the most tempting characters to play as in Imperial Assault, both from her aesthetics and utility, is Diala Passil.  After all, who wouldn't want to be a Jedi if given the chance? She has a badass sculpt, the chance to earn a lightsaber, some incredible abilities, and one of the coolest red missions in the game!  As a testament to one of the most prolific heroes in the game, I've decided to feature her as the first subject of my Rebel campaign hero analysis series of articles, Profiles in Hope . A quick glance at Diala's hero sheet shows that she's no pushover.  She has good health and perhaps even better endurance (which she'll need for all of her powerful abilities).  Her biggest weaknesses are probably her spee...

Unlimited Power: Manipulating the Campaign Structure in Imperial Assault

One of the most common misconceptions about Imperial Assault's campaign mode is that it is a Star Wars clone of Dungeons and Dragons .  While the long story-driven role playing aspects of the game do seem to have some similarities with classic D&D , there are some very big differences that should be considered when comparing the games. First of all, Imperial Assault is a competitive tabletop miniatures game.  While this is evident in campaign, you can perhaps see it even more blatantly in the Skirmish element of the game, where Fantasy Flight Games and the IA community have even designed an official tournament league based wholly on the skirmish side of the game.  The bulk of the gameplay is executed through the rules determining combat, movement, line of sight, and other actions.  Even in campaign, there are very little narrative choices to be made. Secondly, while the campaign does have a story, the bulk of the narrative is driven more by pre-scripted event...

Double Your Efforts: Why Imperial Assault Needs a 2nd Ed.

This week at the Hyperspace Report, Fantasy Flight Games announced a huge second edition of their popular miniatures game, X-Wing.  They appear to be taking advantage of this shift in product to address several aspects of the ambitious game, including turret tracking and faction flavor.  Best yet, conversion kits will make all previous sets compatible with the new edition. Of course, Imperial Assault could probably benefit from a new edition as well, and while in the past I've been very opposed to the idea of a new edition, the way X-Wing is being handles has won me over. Here are some arguments I'd make in support of IA 2.0 (and yes, I know some people refer to the app as that already). 1.  Errata This game is full of errata .   And that's fine, with a game this expansive and old it's to be expected.  But having all of these "hidden" rules (as in, not in official rulebooks at release that may be in a casual player's collection) means that pla...
